A Quick Trip Home

This is has been a very easy week after the initial unpacking. Tuesday was our day off so I slept in as long as I could. After two weeks of getting up between 4 and 5 AM, it was heavenly to sleep in past 11. After I finally woke up I continued with the wholly unproductive day and spent a good majority of it playing on my computer on the couch.
Wednesday was an entirely different story. It started with me heading out to get Danny and instead of finding my aluminum clad hunter, he had decided that being a wild barefoot horse was much more fun. Then due to the extreme amounts of mud, two more of my rides for the day also had issues with shoes. Luckily, the farrier was in town so all the horses got their toes done. Even Danny got fixed up, even if he is now wearing steel instead of aluminum. I did end up riding a handful of horses though, which was fun. I must say, it was nice to be able to hack horses without the show stress.
I took a few days off from Thursday to Sunday morning and headed home. I missed my family more than I had realized and was so excited to go back and see everyone. Thursday night, after a delicious dinner of spaghetti and garlic bread, my brother and sister, Eathan and Molly, and my boyfriend, Devon, all went to see How to Train Your Dragon 2. I loved the first one and didn’t think that it could be topped but it happened! The movie was hilarious and it was a great to spend time with everyone laughing. The rest of the weekend was a mix of sleeping, watching some tv and spending time with my family and Devon’s family. I was really excited to get to finally swim this summer. A few years ago, Devon’s family decided to refurbish their pool and get it up and running again. It has been the highlight of the summers but unfortunately, a pool takes a lot of upkeep. So when Devon and his family took a trip to Portugal last week, it did not bode well for the pool. It was a nice green color when I was home so we did not get to swim at all. Oh well, maybe next time!
I headed back on Sunday morning in time to get on a few horses before the campers began showing up for the week. Danny was feeling well rested and happy with his newly manicured toes. He was a little fresh but Danny’s fresh is just a tad on the spooky side. Normally, he takes a bit to get out and in front of my leg. However, yesterday when I got on him he was relaxed and was happy to move off my leg right away. It was a nice change from the tired horse that we have been working with. I am so proud of his progress over the last month, he is like a brand new horse! This coming week should be full of work with him and I will be sure to talk more about some of the exercises that we work with!
Camp is this week! I have some of my students up from Wichita that are staying up here for an extended camp. I can’t wait to watch them learn some new things and see how their horses do over the next week of lessons. More to follow!
